NAS Herder 0.5.3 Beta Review |
Softango review
The NAS Herder review is positive because it allows you to monitor NAS with a very simple and easy to use interface. Netgear’s ReadyNAS series is now easy to manage with this small software program that provides you with everything you need to keep up on your NAS.
When you start NAS Herder, it allows you to start, monitor and shutdown the NAS system quickly directly from the task tray of Windows. If there is a system synchronized with the client’s PC, it can also power it on and off as well.
The main window of NAS Herder is very easy to read. There’s a status box that shows what the current status of the system is. Additional information will also be listed. There are also status colors in the task tray icon. Inside the icon, there is a context menu that will allow for all functions of NAS Herder to be accessed.
Some of the top features of NAS Herder are:
- Automatically finds NAS systems in LAN
- System errors are notified by status text and balloon message
- Will turn system on/off remotely
- Synchronize with client PC
- Will notify of temperature reaching threshold
The main purpose of NAS Herder is to manage the NAS system and that’s exactly what it does. It works with all versions of Windows including XP and 7. We assume it will work on Vista, too, but it hasn’t been tested on that OS. .NET Framework 4.0 will also be needed.
The NAS Herder program has been adjusted from time to time to work out some of the bugs so it’s a solid program. The fact that the program notifies you of system errors with status text, a change in color as well as a balloon message is also very helpful.
The program is in shareware phase right now which means there are no trial periods to contend with. The problem of reproducing the position of the window after the minimized state has also been corrected. NAS Herder is a popular program as evident by the number of downloads. We like it because it does what it says and a little more.
