The latest virus definitions and scan engine updates are published every week on Monday and is available in the weekly “cumulative.zip” package. The daily package, “daily.zip” is available every day and contains all virus definition updates from the last weekly package release, up to the current date. Regularly updating your antivirus program with the BitDefender (Standard/Professional Plus) Virus Definitions will keep your computer protected from even the most potent threats.
The following guide explains the update process for BitDefender (Standard/Professional Plus) Virus Definitions for you.
For Windows NT4, Windows 2000 and Windows XP:
Download the zip file to your hard disk.
Stop the antivirus program by exiting the BitDefender console. Then right-click on the program’s icon on the System Tray and click “Exit.”
Next, click “Start,” and then “Control Panel.” On the Control Panel window, double-click “Administrative Tools” and select “Services.”
From the subsequent list, locate “BitDefender Virus Shield” and choose to stop the service
Next, locate “BitDefender Scan Server” from the list and choose to stop the service.
Extract the contents of the “cumulative.zip” file in the folder “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Soft\win\BitDefender Scan Server\Plugins,” and overwrite existing files.
The definitions have now been integrated and you can restart BitDefender. Navigate to “Services” and launch the “BitDefender Scan Server” and “BitDefender Virus Shield” services. Open the program’s management console to complete the update process.
For Windows 98 and Windows ME:
Download the “cumulative.zip” file to disk.
Extract the contents of the “cumulative.zip” file into the folder “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Soft\win\BitDefender Scan Server\Plugins” and overwrite the existing files.
Restart the computer to complete the update process.
