If your idea of self portraits consists of holding your digital SLR camera out with one hand and hoping you've aimed well enough so your face is captured in the lens, pkTriggerCord may change your life...and your photo portfolio. Developed for Pentax digital SLR cameras, pkTriggerCord is available under a GPL or GNU General Public License.
To get started, connect your camera to your computer using a USB or mini-USB cord. Turn your camera on, and make sure that it is in picture mode. Open up pkTriggerCord to start controlling your camera remotely. When using this program, your pictures are not stored on your SD card. They are stored directly on the camera's buffer and can be downloaded to your PC. Glean information about the number of images you've taken from the command line prompt, as well as modify auto bracketing of images. You can also change settings, take pictures easily, and read status information directly from pkTriggerCord.
With the 0.77.04 version of pkTriggerCord, you can manually select an auto focus point, ensuring you get the shots you want. You can also store an extended iso range for camera models, for greater shutter speed control.

pkTriggerCord runs on all Windows operating systems, requires 1.2 MB of hard drive space, and is not available for Mac or Linux machines. It was developed by Andras Salamon. The GPL license gives you control over pkTriggerCord once you download, and is intended to provide you with the freedom to distribute the software, to modify it, and to do so in perpetuity.
