The CFS - Compact File Set Archive is a container file similar to, and based upon, certain ISO file types. Compact File Set container files are used for storage of data for later writing CDs and / or DVDs or may even be used just as a compact and unified storage file for large and/or related files. The CFS file format can also be used to store the data for creating a CD/DVD for software distribution, storage for large compressed files and OS disks.
As mentioned earlier, CFS archive file types are similar in construction and function to certain types of the better known ISO file type. Most CD and DVD burning software that recognizes the ISO file type will also recognize and be able to burn files of the Compact File Set file type due to these similarities. The CFS type is based on and so more compatible with, ISO-9660, Joliet Extensions, ISO-9660:1999 and the Compact ISO types. one advantage of the CFS fille type is, while similar to the ISO file types, the Compact File Set type is easier to read due to the smaller range of supported storage options as compared to the ISO file types, which can cause some minor read difficulties..
