The MDI - Microsoft Document Imaging File is a tag-based graphics format with high resolution, developed from the original TIFF format. This files is used by the Microsoft Office Suite to save scanned documents. The MDI file can be converted into a Word (.DOC) document. This can be accomplished by using Optical Character Recognition software. Microsoft Office Document Imaging or MODI is used in the process of creating MDI files as well as opening them. MODI is available of some of the MS Windows versions, including XP 2003 and 2007. Microsoft ceased from adding MODI with Office 2010, which means that MDI files cannot be opened in the 2010 version of Microsoft Office.
