The XFDL - XFDL File stands for Extensible Forms Description Language file, which is a file using XML to translate structured business forms that are legally binding. The file contains all form data, which includes the layout format, transaction details for the business, inline conditional and mathematical expressions, as well as digital signatures.
The transaction needs for the business are also addressed within the file format, including needs for non-repudiation, auditability, security, and the preserving of the context.
SFDL file formats were designed to produce standardized business forms that are interchangeable, allowing for diverse usage. These files were adapted from UDFL to include the XML format as well. They are frequently used in local, state and federal governments and private business e-Commerce transactions.
