GetFLV is an application for downloading, converting and generating video files using the FLV format. Flash videos are commonly found on the Internet, as people use them to create animations, advertisements and other videos that they want to quickly share with other viewers. However, when you are working with video files that are saved in the Flash format, you may sometimes need to convert them into another format.
The application, developed by SuperLogix for use on PCs running all versions of Windows, has an uncluttered interface that makes it easy for users to navigate. After you use your Web browser to search for FLV files, you can use GetFLV to efficiently download them to your computer’s hard drive.
GetFLV enables you to designate the output directory for your converted video files, so they will start converting into your preferred format as soon as they download. If you are curious about what the video will look like, the application lets you activate auto previewing of any selected file. GetFLV will switch to the downloader window automatically when it begins the conversion process.
You never know what kind of video format you may need for a particular file. For example, you may need to save one file so it can play on your cell phone or other portable device, while another video is destined to send out over email to your friends and family.
In other cases, you want to generate a video that will play on your computer with a specific media application. To this end, GetFLV enables you to convert videos that come with a wide variety of extensions, including ASF, AVI, MOV or MPG, and turn them into files that have extensions such as AVI, FLV, MP3, MP4 or WMV. What’s more, you can process them in batches, enabling you to work more efficiently than if you had to click on each individual file to change them into a different format.
For video files that are saved with various audio and video settings, you can use GetFLV to make adjustments to how they were encoded, changing the bit rate, channel, frame rate, resolution and sampling. The application even lets you repair damaged FLV files.
One drawback is that GetFLV can require a large amount of your computer’s system resources. As a result, you may find that it takes a long time to finish converting all the videos you’ve selected. We detected no errors during our tests, and the application never froze or crashed.
