I downloaded nProtect GameGuard Personal 3.0 because I got one of those "Security" trojans. The trojan slipped right through my ancient virus/malware protection. Since I obviously needed an upgrade anyway, I figured I'd get one that supposedly wouldn't slow down my gaming.
Once the software was loaded, it offerred me some optimization options, including deleting a bunch of memory files. I don't like to delete too much without knowing what I'm deleting, so I passed on most of that, but I did go for the network speed and memory optimization functions. I have to admit, I did see improvement while I was gaming. I didn't get quite as many hang ups and I didn't seem to have as much of a lag. It has been nice in game mode not to have to worry about being bumped in the middle of an attack for a defrag or virus scan (in game mode, the software prevents that).
Speaking of virus scans, as far as I can tell, the virus and spyware functions on GameGuard are working well. I've run a few scans and only found two suspicious files (on the first scan). It's hard to say because you never know what hasn't hit you, but as protection programs go, this one seems better than average. All in all, I recommend it, especially for gamers.
