Instant IRC style messaging over the Internet or LAN
PopChat is a powerful client side of an IRC style chat server system designed to function over a LAN or the Internet.
PopChat requires no port forwarding only that you allow it as an exception and stop blocking firewall alerts.
Chat with anyone using PopChat, a free IRC chat client for your home or office computer. PopChat 7.2 is speedy, light, and easy to use. PopChat will run over your local area network (LAN) or over the Internet. Use this chat client for one to one instant messaging, to configure group chats, or to join chat rooms and connect with thousands. With an IRC client like PopChat 7.2, you can talk to absolutely anyone at any time of day. There is no need to have people connected with a contact list.
Carry on multiple conversations at one time, as many as you can handle. The chat interface is clean and clear, with no distractions. You can even set an Away message to come up if you are away from the computer, just like you can with other chat client.
Some chat clients require you to set port forwarding to send messages across the server, but not PopChat 7.2. This means less time on your end setting up the program, and more time to spend communicating with other users. In order to get PopChat 7.2 up and running, you will need to block firewall alerts on your computer and configure your firewall to allow PopChat 7.2 as an exception. If you don't do this, your IRC client won't be able to connect to the Internet and you won't be able to chat.
The latest version of PopChat, PopChat 7.2, is fully compliant with all versions of Windows OS and is not compliant with Macintosh or Linux operating systems. Developed by K5HUM, PopChat 7.2 requires 63 MB of hard drive space. It is freeware.
